Fleeting - Nashville is a weekly newsletter and app about things in Nashville with a short window to catch them. This page explains what we collect, why, who else touches it, and how to get rid of it.
It covers three things: the newsletter, the website at nashville.fleeting.city, and the Fleeting mobile app.
The short version
- We collect the least we can get away with and still tell you a thing is closing.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we never have.
- The website uses PostHog to count visits and the Meta Pixel to measure our Facebook and Instagram ads. The app runs no ad trackers.
- The app works without an account. You only give us an email if you want Fleeting+.
- You can delete everything from inside the app, and it is a real delete.
What we collect
If you subscribe to the newsletter
- Your email address.
- How you found us, when a referral link or signup page tells us.
- Whether an issue was opened and whether links in it were clicked.
Our email provider, beehiiv, handles this. Their privacy policy governs what they store on our behalf.
If you visit the website
- Visit analytics (PostHog). Which pages are viewed, which links and buttons are clicked, your browser and device type, approximate location from your IP address, and the page that sent you. When you submit a form we record that you submitted it, never what you typed. We do not attach any of this to your name. If your browser sends Do Not Track, PostHog records nothing.
- Ad measurement (Meta Pixel). When a page loads, Meta receives the page address, your IP address, browser details, and any Meta cookies already in your browser. We use it to see whether our Facebook and Instagram ads bring people to the site, and to show our ads to people like the ones who visit. Meta handles this under its own privacy policy, and you can control ad use of it in your Facebook or Instagram ad settings.
If you use the app
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| A device identifier we generate | So your saved list belongs to your phone. It is not your advertising ID and it is not tied to your name. |
| Push token, platform, app version | To send alerts and to know which build you are on when something breaks. |
| Your chosen city and your device time zone | To show the right city, and to keep quiet hours quiet in your local time rather than ours. |
| Items you save, and whether you caught or missed them | The saved list is the feature. It also decides which alerts you get. |
| Notification preferences | Quiet hours, daily limit, which neighborhoods you opted into. |
| A log of alerts we sent you | So we never send the same alert twice and never exceed your daily limit. |
| Your email address, only if you sign in to Fleeting+ | To confirm your membership. We verify it by emailing you a code. |
Location
If, and only if, you turn it on, the app uses your location to show what is closing near you and to alert you when you are near something you saved. You can use the entire app without granting location access. Turning it off later stops the nearby features and nothing else. We do not build a history of where you have been, and we do not share your location with anyone.
What we do not collect
- Your name, unless you write it to us yourself.
- Payment details. Fleeting+ billing is handled by Stripe, and card numbers never reach us.
- Your contacts, photos, calendar, or microphone.
- Advertising identifiers in the app. The app runs no ad SDKs.
Who processes data for us
| Who | What they handle |
|---|---|
| beehiiv | Newsletter subscriptions, sending, and open/click statistics. |
| Cloudflare | Hosts the app's data and serves the API. |
| Expo | Delivers push notifications to Apple and Google. |
| Stripe | Fleeting+ payments. |
| Google Fonts | Our web pages load fonts from Google, which sees the request. |
| PostHog | Website visit analytics, stored in the United States. |
| GitHub Pages | Hosts the website, and sees each request like any web host. |
These are processors, not buyers. None of them are permitted to use your information for their own purposes.
Meta is the one exception. The pixel data it receives from our website is also covered by Meta's own terms, so Meta is not just our processor.
Sponsored items
Some items are sponsored, and they are labelled as sponsored where they appear. Sponsors pay for the placement. They do not receive your information, and they are not told who saved or opened anything.
How long we keep things
- Saved items and preferences - until you delete them or delete your app data.
- Alert log - kept while the item is live, then cleared with the item.
- Sign-in codes - 15 minutes, then deleted. They are single use.
- Newsletter subscription - until you unsubscribe.
Your choices
Deleting your app data
In the app: Settings → Delete my data. This removes your device record, your saved list, your notification preferences, your alert history, and any pending sign-in codes. It is immediate and it is not recoverable.
If you cannot reach the app, email hello@fleeting.city and we will do it for you.
Everything else
- Notifications - turn off in the app, or in your phone's settings.
- Location - revoke in your phone's settings at any time.
- Newsletter - unsubscribe from the link at the bottom of any issue.
- A copy of your data - email us and we will send you what we hold.
Depending on where you live you may have additional rights to access, correct, or delete your information, or to object to how we use it. Email us and we will honor the request. We will not treat you differently for exercising a right.
Children
Fleeting is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
Security
Data moves over encrypted connections. Membership is confirmed by a single-use code sent to your email rather than a password. Access to your saved list requires a token issued to your device. No system is perfect, and we will not pretend otherwise.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If the change is material, we will say so in the newsletter rather than hoping you re-read this page.
